What Donations are Used For

I know that some of you are hesitant to donate because you do not know what the money is used for and that is why I am writing this. All of the donations are used to cover our website hosting($16 mediatemple), Ventrilo server ($10 a month), and our game servers ($60 a month). So as of now our monthly overhead is $86 dollars. If we ever exceed our monthly goal which is rare, the donations either get stored for when we hit a low, or it is used to give away prizes to our active and supportive members.

 

I do not ask for much in terms of donations, even $1 dollar a month from someone will really help out.

 

Those of you who think a lot of people donate so you don't need too, that is not the case. The donations we receive are from the same couple of guys who throw in $5, $,10 bucks a month, and get the occasional larger donation, but that is rare. So help these guys out so they do not have to donate so much.

Gaming Communities are Not a Money Making Operation
Now I have been questioned by people, saying that I am just doing this for money and donating is just a rip off. Now if you think about that comment for a second you will realize how stupid it sounds. I would say I put in at least 20-40 hours a week on this community, managing the servers, doing updates, etc. For that amount of time put into something you would need to be making an upwards of more than $500 dollars a week in order for it to be worth all the work -- and besides I usually end up paying half of the bill every month anyway. Out of my own pocket!

 

The reason I run this community is because it is a hobby, I am not trying to make money off from this, by asking for donations I am trying to keep things afloat for those who enjoy being a part of this community and playing on the game servers I manage.
